Spend a day sampling some of the best of Adelaide Hills' food, wine, and spectacular views.
One of the best things about living in the Adelaide Hills is your proximity to some of Australia’s best wineries. We love nothing more than a laid-back excursion with those who matter most around wine country. Sampling warm rustic bread and local antipastos with a creamy glass of wine in hand while the sun moves west, illuminating the aged, loved vines. Is there anything better?
We’ve designed a simple day-trip itinerary through 4 fantastic wineries that will both satisfy your cellar door craving and leave you wanting more.
Start your culinary journey with a wine and cheese flight on the deck at Shaw and Smith’s tasting room. Look out over the beautiful vines and rolling hills while rosellas, galahs and kookaburras soar by. Nibble on cold cheeses and crunchy crackers while you taste your way to your favourite of five varietals to take home with you for a weeknight escape.
2. The Lane
Take a 6-minute drive east and arrive at The Lane Vineyard. Take your seat in the elegant, modern dining room with (more) sweeping views and order an entrée of cured ocean trout, Goolwa Pipis or shaved Wagyu. Pick the main that makes your mouth water most; from charcoal grilled duck and tender kangaroo tail to a buttery ricotta gnudi. Of course you’ll find it hard not to further indulge with a crisp glass; how can you not when it complements your meal so nicely?
Backtrack 8 minutes to Nepenthe; a beautiful boutique vineyard and cellar door with, believe it or not, a fantastic view. Learn about the area and what goes into the production of such beautiful wines from the welcoming staff, and pick your new favourite to add to your growing home wine collection.
Head towards home with a 15-minute drive to Howard Vineyard. Order a rich, deep red to finish your day’s culinary adventure and relax with live music and chilled vibes, knowing you are only 10 minutes from home. Watch the sky turn purple as the sun disappears over the hills and the crisp hills air fills your lungs before the short trip home with your new favourite bottles.
